Speaking after the meeting, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, described Disu as a disciplined and result-oriented officer, recalling his tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos from 2015 to 2021. He said the unit recorded significant strides in crime control during that period.

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, said the appointment reflected the President’s confidence in Disu’s professional track record.

Wike also commended the new IGP’s performance, citing his previous service in Rivers State as Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department and head of the anti-kidnapping unit between 2014 and 2015. Disu later served as Commissioner of Police in the FCT Command during Wike’s tenure as minister, where, according to the FCT minister, he strengthened operational responses to security challenges.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State seconded the motion endorsing Disu’s appointment at the Council meeting.

Prior to his appointment, he served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Special Protection Unit and the Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Annex in Lagos.
