Amnesty International has raised alarm over the worsening security situation in Nigeria, citing a surge in gunmen attacks and abductions for ransom that have become a daily occurrence in several parts of the country.
In a statement, the human rights organization accused President Tinubu’s government of failing in its constitutional and international obligations to protect lives and ensure justice for victims.
According to Amnesty International, suspected perpetrators of killings and kidnappings often evade justice, leaving victims without access to redress. “In many rural communities, only the graveyards are expanding daily,” the statement noted.

The group urged President Tinubu to act immediately, emphasizing that the recent escalation of attacks by Boko Haram, Ansaru, Lakurawa, Mamuda, and other armed groups highlights the ineffectiveness of current security measures.
Amnesty International called on the federal government to implement urgent strategies to curb the nation’s endemic security crisis and fulfill promises made to Nigerians.
The statement adds to growing concerns from civil society groups and international observers about the rising threat to civilian safety across Nigeria, particularly in rural communities where security forces have limited presence.
