Air Peace Shines at First Nigeria International Air Show, Clinches Airline of the Year Award

December 5, 2025

Air Peace Limited has been named “Airline of the Year” at the maiden Nigeria International Air Show, held from December 2 – 4, 2025, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The award was presented by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who commended the carrier for its rapid growth and “remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem.”

Founded in 2014, Air Peace has evolved from operating Dornier 328s and Boeing 737 aircraft to managing one of the most diverse fleets in Africa, including Boeing 777s and the new-generation Embraer 195-E2 jets. Aviation analysts say this strategic investment in modern aircraft has strengthened the airline’s competitive edge across domestic, regional, and intercontinental markets.

Air Peace’s rising profile has been further reinforced by major route expansions. In 2024, the airline launched its Lagos–London (Gatwick) service, marking its entry into Europe. It deepened that push in late 2025 with the inauguration of a direct Abuja-London (Heathrow) service the first by a Nigerian carrier a milestone that industry observers describe as a boost to Nigeria’s global aviation presence.

Organisers of the Nigeria International Air Show said the airline’s extensive domestic coverage, regional dominance, and bold long-haul operations were key reasons it emerged for the top honour in the debut edition of the event.

Dr. Allen Onyema, Air Peace Chairman and CEO, Wins ‘Aviation Executive of the Year’

Complementing the airline’s accolade, Dr. Allen Onyema, Chairman and CEO of Air Peace, was named “Aviation Executive of the Year”. The award, presented by Dr. Yakubu Adam Kofamata, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, honours Onyema’s visionary leadership in transforming the West African aviation sector.

Under Onyema’s guidance, Air Peace has grown from a small startup to a continental aviation powerhouse, generating thousands of jobs across Nigeria and connecting previously underserved cities. His bold strategy to expand internationally, including the landmark Abuja – London Heathrow route, has positioned Nigeria as a competitive player in long-haul aviation markets.

“This recognition celebrates a leader whose vision goes beyond business metrics, driving national pride and global visibility for Nigerian aviation,” the organisers said.

As the airline continues to expand both domestically and internationally, the dual awards reinforce Air Peace and Dr. Onyema’s roles as architects of a new era in Nigerian and African aviation.

The recognition also highlights Air Peace’s growing influence in shaping Nigeria’s aviation industry, expanding connectivity, and bolstering public confidence in indigenous carriers.

With the latest accolade, Air Peace consolidates its position as Nigeria’s leading airline and a growing continental force intent on strengthening Africa’s links with the rest of the world.
