Electricity consumers in Nigeria’s Southeast have commended Aba Power Electric Ltd, a subsidiary of the Geometric Power Group, for maintaining an impressive 45 consecutive days of uninterrupted power supply across the Aba Ring-fenced Area of Abia State.
The commendation came from the Southeast Zone of the Electricity Consumers Association of Nigeria (ECAN), which described the sustained power delivery as “unprecedented and exemplary” in Nigeria’s electricity sector.
“As Geometric Power Ltd, the owner and operator of the 188-megawatt thermal plant in the Osisioma Industrial Layout of Aba, marks yet another 45 days of uninterrupted electricity,” ECAN said in a statement issued in Awka, Anambra State, “we commend Aba Power for delivering the entire electricity generated by the plant to our people and industries faithfully.”
Join our WhatsApp ChannelThe statement, jointly signed by Engr. Joe Ubani, ECAN chairman in the Southeast, and Comrade Chris Okpara, the secretary, attributed the milestone to steady natural gas supply from Heirs Energies, an indigenous oil and gas company working in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
Reliable Gas Supply Boosts Power Stability
According to ECAN, consistent gas delivery has been key to the stability of Aba’s electricity network.
“Our investigation shows that gas supply has been steady,” the association noted, adding that Heirs Energies “has been grappling with operational challenges to the admiration of all.”
Heirs Energies supplies natural gas to the 188MW Geometric Power Plant from its gas facilities in Owaza, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, through a 27-kilometre gas pipeline built by the Geometric Power Group at a cost of $50 million.
The association explained that the gas facilities had suffered technical depreciation in previous years due to underinvestment by The Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), which halted operations during a protracted legal dispute over lease renewal with the Federal Government.
“We are delighted that Heirs Energies, alongside NNPCL, is building up capabilities, indicating what Nigerian corporate entities, entrepreneurs and professionals can do if given the opportunity,” ECAN stated.

Model for National Power Reform
The consistent power supply has not gone unnoticed. Governor Alex Otti of Abia State recently cited Aba’s success as an example of how locally managed power systems can work effectively.
During a recent event at the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Otti remarked that “in Aba, we have gone beyond this problem,” shortly before a brief power outage disrupted the venue underscoring the contrast between the local and national electricity realities.
ECAN urged the Federal Government to replicate the Geometric Power model across the country, describing it as “proof that Nigerian-managed systems can deliver consistent, quality electricity when supported with the right infrastructure and policy framework.”
“Our advice to the Nigerian authorities is to take a look at what the Geometric Power Group has been doing and borrow a leaf from it, so that the rest of the country can enjoy uninterrupted, quality, and affordable electricity,” the group said.
The association also commended the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, for ongoing sectoral reforms aimed at improving power generation and distribution nationwide.
“It is heartwarming that the Minister of Power is already going in this direction, and we urge all Nigerians to support him,” ECAN added.
Aba’s Ring-Fenced Success
Aba Power, Nigeria’s newest electricity distribution company, supplies power to nine of Abia State’s 17 local government areas, covering the Aba Ring-fence an area created under a federal license that allows Geometric Power to generate, distribute, and sell electricity independently.
Since taking full operational control in 2024, Geometric Power has rapidly become a benchmark for localized energy solutions, ensuring stable supply to residential, commercial, and industrial consumers in the region.
