The family of renowned Nigerian evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA), Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, has confirmed his passing. He died on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80.
The announcement was made in an official statement released by his family through the ministry’s verified social media platforms. The statement described him as “a faithful soldier of the Cross, a mentor, husband, father, and spiritual general whose life touched millions across the world.”
Earlier reports of his death had circulated on Monday, October 13, before the family confirmed that the revered cleric actually passed away a week earlier, following a brief illness.

Born on January 7, 1945, in Asaga, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, Rev. Ukpai was one of Nigeria’s pioneering Christian evangelists. He founded the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA) and became a household name across Africa for his large crusades, faith-based teachings, and social outreach initiatives.

Over his decades of ministry, Ukpai was a prominent member of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and worked closely with church leaders across denominations to promote unity and evangelism. His messages on faith, perseverance, and national renewal earned him respect among Christian leaders globally.
Despite enduring personal tragedies including the loss of two children in a car accident years ago Ukpai continued his ministry with unwavering commitment, often sharing his story as testimony of faith and endurance.
Tributes Pour In
Since news of his passing broke, tributes have poured in from Christian leaders, political figures, and followers around the world. Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, described Ukpai as “a steadfast servant of God who lived for the gospel and remained unshaken through life’s trials.”
Leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) also mourned his passing, describing him as “a bridge-builder who dedicated his life to strengthening the church and preaching hope to the nation.”
Members of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association have called for prayers for the family and continued commitment to his legacy of faith, service, and evangelism.

The family said details of the funeral and memorial services will be announced in due course.
In their statement, they urged friends, partners, and followers of the late evangelist to remain steadfast in faith and uphold his vision of “reaching the unreached and blessing the nations.”
