IFGreen Industries & Investment Ltd has commissioned a Hybrid Solar Photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at its production facility in Epe, Lagos, marking its transition from diesel-powered operations to renewable energy, Prime Business Africa reports.

The agro-allied processing firm announced the development on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, describing it as a major milestone in its drive toward sustainability, operational efficiency and long-term scalability.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by the company’s Managing Director, Mr. Peter Okonkwo, alongside representatives of its energy partner, Grosolar, led by Mr. Abiodun Oni.
According to the company, the project was executed in partnership with Grosolar and financed with the support of CleanEnergyFund of FundCo. The new installation is expected to deliver uninterrupted 24-hour electricity supply to the company’s operations in Epe.

Ending Four Years of Diesel Dependence
IFGreen said the transition concludes four years of reliance on diesel generators due to erratic and insufficient public grid supply in Epe.

The company noted that diesel procurement had significantly increased operational costs, impacting margins and long-term investment planning.
“With this renewable energy solution in place, we are positioned to significantly reduce energy expenditure and redirect savings into strategic growth initiatives,” the firm said.

The company added that improved power reliability would enable full capacity utilisation at its facility, strengthen value addition in food processing, and enhance its contribution to local economic development.

Cost Savings, Stability and Carbon Reduction
IFGreen outlined several expected benefits from the solar transition, including year-on-year energy cost savings, greater predictability in energy expenses, and improved returns on agro-processing investments.

The company also projected a reduction in carbon emissions, increased opportunities for carbon credit generation, and enhanced operational stability through seamless, year-round power supply.

Industry analysts say rising fuel costs and unstable grid supply have continued to push Nigerian manufacturers and agro-processors toward off-grid and hybrid renewable solutions to protect margins and ensure business continuity.

Expansion into Circular Economy Solutions
Beyond solar energy adoption, IFGreen disclosed plans to expand into circular economy initiatives, including converting agro-processing waste into bio-gas as part of its sustainability strategy.

The company said the move would further reduce production costs, improve profitability, and deepen its environmental impact.
By integrating renewable energy and waste-to-energy solutions, IFGreen said it aims to position itself as a forward-looking player in Nigeria’s agro-processing sector while promoting inclusive economic growth in its host community.
