Troops Force 11 Terrorists to Surrender, Neutralise Eight in Borno Offensive

January 12, 2026

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have recorded fresh operational gains against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists across Borno State, forcing 11 fighters to surrender, killing eight others and arresting two suspected logistics collaborators, Prime Business Africa reports.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba.

According to the statement, sustained military pressure under Operation Desert Sanity V along the Azir–Wajiroko axis on Saturday, January 10, 2026, compelled 11 terrorists to lay down their arms, surrendering with their AK-47 rifles and assorted ammunition.

Uba said the surrenders followed days of intense clearance, fighting patrols and blocking operations aimed at degrading terrorist strongholds and supply lines across the state.

Earlier, on Friday, January 9, troops conducted extensive clearance operations in the Bulaagalda cluster, destroying several active terrorist enclaves and camps located at Dagumba, Bonne, Yaganari, Gosuri and Umchile. The operation also targeted camps linked to notorious terrorist commanders, Abu Nazir and Abu Ahmed.

“During the operation, troops dismantled life-support structures, degraded terrorist logistics and recovered items including terrorist flags, weapons and magazines,” the statement said.

Similar offensive actions in the Yale and Bula Gaida areas forced terrorists to flee, leading to the destruction of additional logistics facilities and the recovery of weapons, ammunition and a general-purpose machine gun.

In a related operation based on credible intelligence, OPHK troops engaged JAS/ISWAP elements between Sojiri and Kayamla villages, neutralising eight terrorists and recovering several AK-47 rifles.

The military also arrested two suspected terrorist logistics collaborators in Gubio Local Government Area for allegedly supplying insurgents with logistics.

Lieutenant Colonel Uba said troops remain resolute in sustaining offensive pressure to dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting peace and security across the North-East region.

He added that all suspects and recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation and necessary legal action.
