President Tinubu has approved the establishment of a National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC) to oversee the coordinated rollout of the administration’s new tax reforms.

The committee, chaired by Joseph Tegbe, is tasked with ensuring that the implementation of the landmark tax laws aligns with the government’s economic objectives and the broader interests of Nigerians. The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, will supervise the committee’s activities.

According to a statement from the State House, the NTPIC will conduct extensive consultations with stakeholders across the public and private sectors to guarantee a broad-based approach to the reforms.

Tegbe, a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), brings over 35 years of experience in the public and private sectors, including his tenure as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa.

Sanyade Okoli, Special Adviser to the President on Finance and Economy, will serve as the committee’s secretary, while other members include Ismaeel Ahmed, Rukaiya El Rufai, and experts drawn from finance, law, civil society, and the private sector.

In a statement, President Tinubu said the new tax laws demonstrate his administration’s commitment to a fair, transparent, and technology-driven tax system that fosters economic growth while protecting citizens and businesses.

“The National Tax Policy Implementation Committee will ensure coherent, effective, and well-aligned implementation across all levels of government,” the President added.

The NTPIC is mandated to enhance inter-agency coordination, harmonise existing frameworks with new statutes, and carry out public awareness campaigns to support the effective rollout of the tax reforms.

Chairman Tegbe said the committee is ready to work closely with stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation and strengthen public trust in the tax system. Minister Edun noted that the committee’s establishment reflects the President’s vision for resetting Nigeria’s fiscal framework to drive sustainable economic growth.

The committee is expected to improve revenue mobilisation, reduce leakages, and reinforce accountability, thereby supporting the government’s fiscal and development objectives.
