Gov Fintiri Imposes 24-Hour Curfew on Lamurde LGA Following Renewed Violence

July 12, 2025

In response to escalating violence and rising insecurity, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The directive, announced on Friday evening through the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, takes immediate effect and will remain in place until further notice. The decision follows a series of violent attacks that reportedly led to the destruction of property and posed a threat to public safety.

“The imposition of the curfew is aimed at restoring order and preventing further breakdown of law and order,” the statement read. “Security agencies have been directed to ensure strict enforcement, and anyone found violating the curfew will be arrested and prosecuted.”

While the government did not disclose specific details of the recent attacks, sources within the community say the violence stems from long-standing tensions between rival groups in the area. Residents have reported gunshots, burnt houses, and the displacement of several families.

Confirming the development, the Adamawa State Police Command said it had deployed additional personnel to Lamurde to enforce the curfew and protect lives and property. Commissioner of Police Dankombo Morris assured citizens of the command’s commitment to maintaining peace, urging residents to comply fully with the government’s directive.

“We are on the ground, and our men are stationed across the LGA. This is a precautionary measure to avert further unrest. We call on the people of Lamurde to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel,” CP Morris said.

The curfew means all movement, whether on foot or by vehicle, is prohibited across Lamurde LGA. Essential workers have been advised to contact law enforcement for guidance, while schools, markets, and places of worship remain closed.

Governor Fintiri, who has consistently emphasized the importance of peace and coexistence in the state, appealed for calm, warning that his administration will not tolerate any acts that threaten the security of citizens.

This is not the first time curfews have been imposed in Adamawa due to communal clashes. In past instances, such government measures have helped reduce tensions but have also drawn criticism over the disruption of economic activity and livelihoods in affected areas.

As of this morning, Lamurde remains heavily patrolled by police and military forces. It is unclear how long the curfew will last, but authorities insist it will be lifted once normalcy is fully restored.
