U-20 AFCON: F/Eagles Settle Down In Cairo, Tackle Egypt in Friendly Today

The Nation’s U-20 side, the Flying Eagles have settled down in Cairo ahead of their participation in the 25th edition of the championship.

Primebusiness.africa understands that the team settled into the Jewel Sports City and Aqua Resort, a facility that promises to provide them with the necessary amenities and comfort in preparation for the challenges ahead.

As part of their preparation, the Aliyu Zubairu tutored side will take on Young Pharaohs Tuesday (today) in a shape up friendly at the Cairo International Stadium at 4pm.

The Flying Eagles will open their campaign on May 1 against Tunisia at the Military Stadium in Cairo. Pitched against Tunisia, Kenya and Morocco in Group B,  the Nigerian lads will be hoping to jump the hurdles posed by their opponents to advance in a tournament in which Nigeria has done well in the past, winning a record seven times with two runner up finishes at the world stage.

The U-20 AFCON serves as a qualifying tournament for the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals scheduled for September 27 to October 19 in Chile.

All four semi-finalists at the tournament in Egypt will represent Africa at the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals. It will be a plus for Nigeria to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, after failing to qualifying for FIFA U-17 Championship billed for November in Qatar.

Ten African countries viz Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Mali, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia, Uganda and Zambia will be participating at the championship billed for November 3rd to 27th.
