Son of John Amos who starred as the family patriarch on the hit 1970s sitcom “Good Times”, Kelly Christopher Amos, has expressed optimism that his father’s legacy will continue to linger.

“K.C.” Amos confirmed in a statement to PEOPLE Magazine that his father died of natural causes in Los Angeles on August 21.

“It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned,” K.C. wrote. “He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved the world over.”

He continued: “Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.”

“My father loved working as an actor throughout his entire life,” he added. “Most recently in Suits LA, playing himself ,and our documentary about his life journey as an actor, America’s Dad. He was my dad, my best friend, and my hero. Thank you for your prayers and support at this time.” he stated.

Interestingly John Amos who was a passionate actor, also had passion for football and played for Colorado State Rams and was signed as a free agent by Denver Broncos. He had lived in Colorado on and off throughout his life but in recent years lived near the Custer County town of Westcliffe.

Among Amos’ film credits were “Let’s Do It Again” with Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier, “Coming to America” with Eddie Murphy and its 2021 sequel, “Die Hard 2,” “Madea’s Witness Protection” and “Uncut Gems” with Adam Sandler. He was in Ice Cube and Dr. Dre’s 1994 video “Natural Born Killaz.”

In 2020, Amos was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame. He served in the New Jersey National Guard.

He is survived by daughter, Shannon, a former entertainment executive, and and Kelly Christopher, a Grammy-nominated video music director and editor. They were from his first marriage to Noel Mickelson, whom he met in college. His second marriage to actor Lillian Lehman ended in divorce. Only recently James Earl Jones who played King Jaffe Joffer in Coming to America equally passed on at the age of 93.
