The search for substantive coach for the Super Eagles is not done and dusted. President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, made the submission adding however that the bridge is about to be crossed.

The NFF, according to him, is being very careful about the choice a coach for the senior national team with intent to getting a tactician who will walk the talk. A deal he further said had already been reached with German tactician, Bruno Labbadia, before his agent scuttled the deal with what he called unreasonable demand.

“Getting a coach for the Super Eagles is a process but along the line, we began a process and almost concluded. We reached an agreement but later the middlemen scuttled the arrangement with demands that we never agreed to,” Gusau told NFF TV. “We cannot sit down and engage our country into something people will start raising questions that will be difficult to answer. We are almost done about it and we will do our best to ensure that by the time we come up with a coach it is going to be a coach that will take us to the level we should be.”

While the chase for new coach continues, Gusau has meantime revealed that care-taker Coach, Austin Eguavoen, was given the liberty of choosing his team of assistants, describing the assistants he chose as “two best young coaches currently in the league.”

“When we gave Augustine Eguavoen the chance to manage the Super Eagles on interim basis, he decided to go for those that we claim to be the young and best coaches in the league, Fidelis Ilechukwu of Rangers and Daniel Ogunmodede of Remo Stars. and no one can dispute it because we know they deserve to be there,” Gusau said.

The desire of the Glass House. Gusau further added is to see the Eagles qualify to win a fourth AFCON title in Morocco and qualify for the 2026 World after failing to qualify for the last one in Qatar, and assured the team of maximum support.

“I have full confident that we are going to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. I know we had a very bad start having got three points from four games but if you look at the momentum now in the Super Eagles you will notice some level of progress,” Gusau stated in an interview with NFF TV.

“Going forward I know that everybody among the players know what it is at stake. We are surely going to do our best to support the team.
