Nigeria’s Favour Ofili qualified for Women 200m final at the ongoing Olympics in Paris Monday.

Ofili who lead the pack in her heat in the quarterfinals was also in her element on Monday in the semis where she finished second in semifinal heat 1 with a time of 22.05 behind women 100m Champions Julien Alfred of St Lucia, while beating America’s M. Long who clocked 22.30.

Heat 2 produced G. Thomas of United States at a time of 21.86, Dina Asher-Smith of Britain 22.31 and H. Parisot of France 22.55. Qualifying from Heat 3 are B.Brown of USA 22.12,D. Nieta of Britain 22.24 and J. Gbai of Cote d Ivoire 22.36s. Only the duo of Alfred and Thomas ran under 22s in the overall heats leading to the final.

The Women 200m final comes up Tuesday August 6, 2024.

Blessing Oborududu Fails to Qualify For Wrestling Final

Meanwhile the desire of Nigerian Wrestler Blessing Oborududu to qualify for the final of the women’s 68kg wrestling final hit the rocks on Monday after she lost 3-1 to Meerim Zhumanazarova of Kyrgyzstan.

The match which took place at the Champ-de-Mars Arena in Paris saw the Nigerian pick the first point against her opponent but succumbed eventually to 3-1 defeat.

Oborududu had in the earlier on Monday defeated Canadian opponent Linda Morais 8-2 in the quarterfinals. Oborodudu who is ranked 6th in the world is not a new comer to the Olympics as claimed silver at Tokyo Olympics.

Zhumanazarova, who is ranked 16th in the world, holds the title of Master of Sport of International Class in her home country and secured a bronze medal in the same weight category at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
