Governors of the South-West states on Monday converged on Ibadan for an emergency security meeting aimed at addressing escalating security threats and strengthening regional cooperation.
The closed-door session, held at the Governor’s Office, Agodi, was hosted by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and attended by governors from Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti states, with Osun State represented by its deputy governor.
According to insiders, the urgent and unscheduled meeting was convened to deliberate on rising insecurity across the zone, fast-track key infrastructural initiatives, and reinforce regional integration under the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN).

A major focus of the session was the review of ongoing collaborative security efforts, particularly the operations of the Amotekun Corps.
The governors examined ways to enhance the outfit’s capacity through improved intelligence sharing, deployment of advanced surveillance tools, and stronger operational coordination across the states.
The renewed push comes amid growing concerns among residents over kidnappings, banditry, herder-farmer clashes, and urban criminal activities affecting communities in the region.
The governors are expected to issue a communiqué outlining strengthened joint strategies to safeguard the South-West and accelerate regional development initiatives.
