Journey man and former Super Eagles winger, Victor Moses, has returned to England after close to five years in transit loan deals since 2019.

The former Chelsea star has seen loan deals take him to Fernerbahce, Inter Milan and Spartak Moscow. The loan to Russian side Spartak Moscow in the 2020/2021 season had started as a loan deal but upgraded to permanent deal on 2 July 2021, ending nine years of long distance romance with Chelsea.

Recently, relegated Premier league club, Luton Town, confirmed today September 10, 2024 that the former Wigan Athletic star has signed for them to the delight of fans and management of the club. Moses became a free agent after his contract with Spartak Moscow expired in May this year.

Moses had initially joined Luton on a trial basis, showcasing his skills during training sessions and impressing the coaching staff.

He further demonstrated his capabilities in behind-closed-doors match, ultimately convincing Luton’s manager, Rob Edwards, to offer him a contract, which Moses gladly accepted.

Speaking about Moses’ signing, Edwards expressed his satisfaction, saying, “Victor is one we’ve been talking to for quite a while. He trained with us last week and played 60 minutes in a behind-closed-doors game, and we decided because we think he’s able to come in and help us.

“He gives us more strength in depth and versatility because he’s someone who can play both sides or as a number ten. He’s tactically aware and can provide some really good competition for us.”

Edwards however hinted that Moses will not immediately be thrown into the ring as he needs sometime to adapt to the team’s play pattern

“I don’t want to put too much pressure on him and expect too much too soon. He’s not going to come in and start the games straight away. He’s got to get used to what we do and how we play, but he’s fit” he said

Luton will no doubt be harvesting from Moses’s wealth of experience, having contributed to Chelsea’s Premier League victory in 2017 and played a vital role in Inter Milan’s Serie A triumph during the 2019-20 season, both under the management of Antonio Conte.

Moses who made his highest career appearance with Chelsea from 2012 to 2021, 87 appearances with seven goals to his credit, scored highest career goals for Crystal Palace, 11 goals in 58 appearances between 2007 and 2010.

The former junior England international made 38 appearances for Super Eagles scoring 12 goals. He was part of the Nigeria team to the 2018 World Cup in Russia where he scored an equaliser against Argentina despite Eagles 2-1 defeat in the encounter at the Krestovsky Stadium, Saint Petersburg.

Minimum Wage Decision Expected as Nigerian Labour Leaders Await President's Response ABUJA, NIGERIA – The discussions on the new minimum wage between the Federal Government and Organized Labour are anticipated to conclude today, with labour leaders keenly awaiting President Bola Tinubu's verdict on their N250,000 proposal. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had set a Monday deadline for finalizing the new minimum wage talks. Last Friday, the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage concluded its meetings where the Federal Government and the Organized Private Sector agreed on N62,000, while Labour demanded N250,000. However, the Nigeria Governors Forum declared that any minimum wage exceeding N60,000 would be unsustainable. A labour leader who spoke anonymously on Sunday stated, "We have submitted the report to the president and are waiting for him to make his decision. That is the most important thing and that is what we are all waiting for." The labour leaders, including NLC President Joe Ajaero, are currently attending a labour conference organized by the International Labour Organisation in Geneva, Switzerland. The leadership plans to hold a National Executive Council meeting upon their return, where a decision on a potential strike will be made based on the president's feedback. "We must come back from Geneva first before we can hold a NEC meeting. We are also trying to be careful so the government won't say Labour is inciting citizens against it. We are waiting for the president's decision," added another top NLC official. The labour unions, comprising the NLC and TUC, recently embarked on a two-day nationwide strike to demand a new minimum wage and the reversal of the electricity tariff hike. The strike was suspended for five days after a commitment was made with the Federal Government to resume negotiations and establish a new minimum wage within a week. Following a six-hour meeting between labour leaders and the National Assembly in Abuja, President Tinubu directed the finance minister, Wale Edun, to present the cost implications of a new minimum wage within two days. The finance minister, alongside the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, presented the cost implications at the Presidential Villa on Thursday. The president is currently reviewing the proposal and is expected to make an official announcement soon. When asked about the Monday ultimatum, a source within the NLC said, "We have sent a report to the committee and are expecting the president to act on it. We will hold a National Executive Council meeting regarding the ultimatum when we return from Geneva. It is very important for us to be there, but right now, we are patiently waiting for the decision of Mr President." Organized Labour's recent actions underscore the urgency and importance of establishing a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers. The outcome of President Tinubu's decision will be crucial in determining the next steps for both the government and the labour unions.
