Tinubu Announces Major Rescue Breakthroughs, Pledges Tougher Nationwide Security Response

November 23, 2025

President Tinubu on Sunday announced the rescue of 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State, and 51 students earlier seized from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to tackle insecurity across the country.

In a statement posted on his official channels, the President said he had cancelled his planned trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa to coordinate security operations at home. He credited the recent breakthroughs to the intensified efforts of security forces engaged in multiple rescue missions nationwide.

Tinubu said 38 abducted worshippers in Kwara had regained freedom, while 51 of the missing students from the Niger school attack were also recovered. Search-and-rescue operations remain ongoing for others still unaccounted for.

“I am closely monitoring the security situation nationwide and receiving continuous updates from the frontline,” he said, assuring citizens that the government would not relent until every victim is brought home safely.

“Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people,” the President added.

The recent kidnappings have intensified public concern over rising attacks targeting schools and rural communities, with security agencies mounting expanded operations across affected states.
