The army has confirmed the incident and is reportedly continuing operations to locate both the abductors and the missing girls, Prime Business Africa reports.

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to rescue the students, emphasizing that intelligence and security agencies have a clear mandate to end the standoff. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Bar Association condemned the abduction, calling it part of a “growing culture of brazen violence” targeting schools.

The Senate has ordered a probe into the Safe School Fund, questioning systemic lapses that leave students vulnerable despite prior intelligence warnings, which President Tinubu confirmed had been received.

No group has claimed responsibility for the abduction or the ambush, though officials refer to the perpetrators as “bandits” or “terrorists.” Security experts warn that the ambush underscores the growing sophistication of armed groups in northwestern Nigeria.

Authorities continue to appeal to residents with credible information to cooperate with security agencies, stressing that time is critical for the safe recovery of the schoolgirls and injured soldiers.
