“As I mark my 52nd birthday today, 7th October, I find myself in a reflective mood. I deliberately chose to spend this special day with close family and old friends, amongst whom were Doye Ogionwo, my primary school classmate and bestie for over 45 years, and Orhue Akpata, my first cousin, Kings College Lagos classmate, and friend. These relationships serve as a poignant reminder of the days of little beginnings and the extraordinary journey that has brought me to this moment. I am deeply thankful to God for His guidance and blessings throughout this journey.

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the path I have travelled and the growth I have experienced. This day of personal celebration also marks a renewal of purpose and a rededication to the values that have guided me throughout my life. These values – integrity, the courage to stand alone, the strength to challenge convention, the conviction to pursue what is right, even against the tide of popular opinion, commitment to excellence, and an unwavering belief in the potential of our people – have shaped my character and my approach to public service.

“To those who have been very concerned about my well-being following the events of September 21st, I assure you that I am doing exceptionally well. The gubernatorial election process, with its disappointing irregularities and procedural failures, presented not just a personal setback but a challenge to our democratic ideals. Yet, I view this not as an end of itself but as a critical juncture in our pursuit of good governance. These experiences, though difficult and indeed a steep learning curve, have strengthened my resolve, and I have embraced them as an opportunity for growth and taken the invaluable lessons that will guide our continued efforts in nation-building.

“As I blow out my birthday candles, my wish is for the prosperity and progress of our beloved Edo State and Nigeria. Despite the significant challenges we face, I remain steadfast in my belief that with unity, perseverance, and a shared vision, we will overcome. With God’s grace, we shall see better days ahead.

“I am profoundly grateful for your support, prayers, and birthday wishes. As we move forward, let us hold fast to hope and continue working tirelessly for the betterment of our State and Nation. The setbacks of yesterday only fuel our determination for a brighter, more democratic tomorrow.”
