Table toppers, Remo Stars, will be hoping to maintain their sail at the summit of the Nigerian League, as they take on Akwa United in Uyo, this Sunday.

Remo Stars with 36 points in 19 matches are hotly being chased by second placed Rivers United, Shooting Stars and defending champions Enugu Rangers with 34,33 and 31 points in that order.

The Daniel Ogunmodele tutored side, have lost only one match in their last five games away to Niger Tornadoes just before Christmas break. Sunday’s clash with Akwa United is a reverse fixture of late December when Remo Stars handed visiting Akwa United a 2-1 defeat at the Ikenne Stadium.

No doubt Ogunmodede and his boys will be hoping to re-enact the feat achieved against Akwa united in Ikenne, but can they achieve that today in Uyo?

Fans of both sides will be waiting and watching to see which way the pendulum swings.

Akwa United, will they have cause to smile today?

Remo Stars against Akwa United is however not the only match that will arrest the attention of league lovers today, as Heartland managed by former international Emmanuel Amuneke takes on Lobi Stars at  the ever popular Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, while Plateau United entertain Rivers United in Jos.

League defending champions, Rangers International, began the second stanza with a shock 2-1 loss to visiting Niger Tornadoes at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu on Saturday.

The Fidelis Ilechukwu tutored side who have only managed two wins in their last five matches, will have to wait till February 2nd when they host Ikorodu City to see if they can return to winning ways.

There are strong indications that the clash between Remo Stars and Akwa United today will be full of fireworks, as struggling Akwa United recently beefed up their squad with the signing of five new players.

Notable additions include forward Uche Sabastine and midfielders Ogar Sabastine and Samuel Tochukwu, from PSports Academy.

The team has also added Orji Chisom from Sporting Lagos and brought in defender Adamu Umar from Sunshine Stars.

Furthermore, the right-back Asuquo Etiene, is making a return to Akwa United after completing a loan spell with local rivals Dakkada FC.

The Uyo landlords will be hoping that their effort yields fruit and help navigate them out of relegation zone.
