Favour Ofili receives ovation from Nigerians

Nigeria’s Favour Ofili has declared that she gave the 200m final on Tuesday her all, describing the eventual outcome as God’s will, not hers. In a reaction via her X, the 22 year-old said “Gods will not mine. It’s been a hard one coming. Tried to be mentally ready regardless of the shocking news I took few days back. I gave it my all from lane 9” she submitted.

Ofili came first in her heat in the semifinals leading to the final, but ended up in the 6th position, in the race won by Gabrielle Thomas of United States on Tuesday. She could not participate in the 100m after AFN and NOC bungled her chances by failing to submit her name for the event, claiming that they did when there was no sign of the name in the master list.

However, in a swift reaction, Nigerians have taken to the social media to express their love and support for Ofili, noting that she actually did her best at this year’s Olympics.

Balatic (PO=Comp+Integrity+Equity)@Balatic said “We’re proud of you, star girl. To have qualified for the final despite the traumatising news shows your strong spirit. For that I say Big Congratulations 🎉You’ll be there at the very top soon. Keep working hard. We’re rooting for you ❤.”

Voice Of Our Ancestors Channel@VoiceOfOurAnces offer words of encouragement saying “Noah Lyles didn’t make 100m Olympics in Tokyo. And 4 years later he won it…  You are going to do the same thing in Los Angeles in 4 years time.  We appreciate you, Favour. Thank you for representing us.”

#OfficeOfTheNigerianCitizen@kcemenike added “Well-meaning Nigerians are proud of you Fav. See you at the top, whichever country you settle for in Milano Cortina.”

Thinker(Storm)@Airdropglobal5 also told Ofili to remain strong as she has always been saying “Nigeria is proud of you Favour. It’s shocking at the mistreatment you’ve endured over the last couple of days but through it all, you’ve held your head high and conducted yourself like a true champion.”

HumanityFirst@real_cjasogwa expressed optimism that better days will come for Ofili, saying “Congratulations for staying strong and putting up a strong fight. I have no doubt that you will achieve the desires of your heart and make us proud at the world stage. We failed you this time but, it shall be corrected.”
