MCE, Civil Society, Labour Leaders to Stage Media Rally at NASS Over Electoral Reforms

February 16, 2026

The Movement for Credible Elections (MCE), a coalition of leaders of organised civil society and the labour movement, has announced plans to stage a media rally at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Tuesday as part of efforts to intensify pressure for comprehensive electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by its Media Coordinator, Comrade James Ezema, the coalition said the action would take the form of a “strategic world media interaction” scheduled for 10 a.m. on February 17, 2026.

According to the group, the rally is aimed at urging the National Assembly to adopt far-reaching electoral reforms in line with what it described as the demands of Nigerians, as contained in a public petition submitted to the legislature last month.

Head of the MCE National Secretariat, Comrade Olawale Okunniyi, said the protest marks a continuation of peaceful democratic engagement designed to ensure that Nigeria’s electoral laws reflect the genuine will of the people.

He stressed that credible elections are central to strengthening democracy, enhancing political accountability and restoring public confidence in governance.
The coalition vowed to sustain nationwide mobilisation until what it termed “meaningful electoral reforms” are achieved.

Among those expected to address the rally are Dr. Usman Bugaje; Comrade Ayuba Wabba; Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN); Professor Pat Utomi; Dr. Oby Ezekwesili; Barrister Femi Falana (SAN); Prince Adewole Adebayo; Comrade Joe Ajaero; Senator Shehu Sanni; Hadjia Bilikisu Magoro; Comrade Ene Obi; Alhaji Shettima Yerima; Professor Chidi Odinkalu; Comrade Promise Adewusi; Engr. Bala Zakka; Ambassador Nkoyo Toyo; Dr. Sam Amadi; Comrade Malachy Ugwummadu; and Peter Randy Akah, among other leaders.
