She released a heartfelt song, “If You Hadn’t Been There,” as a tribute to their enduring love and his unwavering support throughout her career. Parton finds solace in her work, honouring their long-lasting bond amidst grief. She painted the deep struggle to adapt to life without him

“I’m having to really go through a lot, trying to be without him because I was with him for so long,” she revealed in an open interview with Entertainment Tonight.

Carl Dean was a reserved, private individual who preferred to live out of the limelight, even as Dolly’s fame ascended to international heights. He operated an asphalt paving business in Nashville and was recognised for his loyal support and unconditional love for Dolly. They started their romance in 1964 outside a laundromat on the day Dolly relocated to Nashville, and two years later they married in a small ceremony in Ringgold, Georgia, in front of only family.

As a dedication to Carl, Dolly issued a moving new song called “If You Hadn’t Been There,” a ballad that captures the extent of their love and the central place he held in her life.

The words express thanks for his trust, love, and faith, highlighting how much he influenced her dreams and achievements. Dolly dedicated the song to him as “the star of my life story” and stated their love “never ends” but endures in memory and song.

Carl also helped to inspire one of Dolly’s all-time greatest hits, “Jolene,” which was inspired by a teller at a bank who had an innocent crush on him, a lighthearted anecdote Dolly once shared. For all his aversion to publicity, Carl had a deep influence on Dolly’s life and career, providing the basis of love which supported her for decades of popularity.

While Dolly acknowledges that she will miss Carl for all eternity, she is comforted by the fact that he is at peace. She is dedicating herself to her job as a means of coming to terms, exemplifying the strength and dignity that have characterised her life and career. Their love story, with its devotion and profound love, is a witness to long-term union in the adversity of life’s losses.
