Chelle’s Tour Of Eagles Continues, To Scout For NPFL Players

Ahead of his double header acid test clash against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, Super Eagles Coach, Eric Chelle, has continued his tour of  foreign based Eagles, before dishing out his  final squad for the clashes billed for Kigali and Uyo respectively.

So far the former Mali coach who is accompanied by his assistant, Hedi Taboubi, has met with Fulham’s Alex Iwobi, Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi and Nantes winger Moses Simon.

Visits to other players Primebusiness.africa understands have also been lined up in the coming days and weeks.

Aside from checking on established players, Chelle we further understand is also looking at other players who are hungry to contribute to the good of the Eagles. He reportedly made contact with Newcastle United forward, Jacob Murphy, who is eligible for the senior national team of Nigeria.

Murphy, 29, who has represented England at various levels, is of Irish descent through his mother and he is of Nigerian origin through his father. He is yet to be capped by any of the nations at senior level.

The ongoing European tour, is not only aimed at helping Chelle to evaluate the current form and fitness levels of these players, but also fosters a stronger connection between the coaching staff and the athletes.

The evaluation is however not only about foreign-based players as plans are in top gear for Chelle on return to attend several NPFL matches, with a view to penciling down players that can be injected into the squad for maximum effect. Recall that former Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, was also a regular at NPFL matches during his time.

Chelle who was appointed as Super Eagles head coach on January 7, 2025, has been mandated above any other thing to earn a ticket for Nigeria to the next world Cup to be hosted by USA, Mexico and Canada next year.

Rallying players according to Chelle, is inevitable to ensure that all are on the same page ahead, of the next set of qualifiers.
