It marked the club’s second win in 14 matches. Aside from serving as a good omen for Eguma, the victory also marked a memorable and victorious debut for former Super Eagles star, Brown Ideye, who recently followed the footsteps of Eagles Captain, Ahmed Musa, to join the local league after playing for other clubs abroad.

Ideye accounted for Enyimba’s third goal. Joseph Atule who has been sidelined by injury equally marked his return with a brace.

Prior to the match played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Enyimba led the group from the match with just a point in four matches played but the victory has taken the Peoples Elephant to four points, bringing them at par with Black Bulls even as they dream another over Egyptian side, Al Masry, on Sunday.

As it stands, Zamalek lead Group D with eight points followed by Al Masry at five, while Black Bulls and Enyimba have four points each. Without appearing to underrate Al Masry, the real test for Enyimba will be the last match against Zamalek in Egypt on January 19.

Looking at the Group, Zamalek appear safe but not so much for Al Masry who could be edged out of the second position should Enyimba consolidate with another win next Sunday. Only two teams are expected to emerge from each of the four groups to advance into the quarterfinals.

Group A has seen very keen contest with CS Constantine leading with nine points followed by Simba of Tanzania equally on nine points. RSB Berkane lead group B with 12 points while USM Alger lead group C with eight points.

Worthy of note is that the Black Bulls of Mozambique squad which faced Enyimba at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium boasts of four Nigerian players namely two attackers; Ejata Ifoni and Ayuba Francis Abubakar and two midfielders,Rume Akporoh and Hameed Oluwasegun Jeleel.
