He wrote: “News just in. Finidi George #FinidiGeorge_FG has resigned from his #NGSuperEagles manager position.”

Finidi’s resignation came just weeks into his tenure as coach of the Super Eagles

Finidi’s exit from the role comes a few days after the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), announced a plan to appoint a foreign technical adviser for the team.

The former Enyimba FC manager, has managed only two competitive games as the Eagle’scoach since his appointment in April.

He led the team to a 1-1 home draw against South Africa in his first game, and a 2-1 loss to the Benin Republic in the second game. Both matches were 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The latest string of performances condemned Nigeria to fifth in the qualification group, having previously drawn against Lesotho and Zimbabwe. The unimpressive results triggered adverse reactions from Nigerians, particularly on social media.

Minister of Sports Ddevelopment, John Enoh, then summoned the NFF bosses over the losses demanding explanations.

Since the two matches, crisis had continued to brew not only between Finidi and his employers, the NFF, but also between Finidi and a number of players after he was quoted as saying some of the big players are not committed and that there is no way of imposing sanctions on such big players.
