Bauchi Orders Immediate Closure of All Schools Over Escalating Security Threats

November 24, 2025

The Bauchi State Government has ordered the temporary shutdown of all schools across the state following rising security threats linked to a wave of terrorism and kidnapping incidents affecting northern Nigeria.

The directive, issued by the State Ministry of Education on Sunday, affects all primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, including federal government-owned unity schools and private schools.

In a statement, Jalaludeen Usman, Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Ministry of Education, said the decision was reached after extensive consultations with security agencies and was driven by “overwhelming security concerns affecting the safety of students, teachers, and school communities.”

“All primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions including Federal Government-owned schools and private schools are hereby closed with immediate effect,” the statement read.

Usman acknowledged the hardship the shutdown may cause but said the government’s priority is the safety of children and educators.

“The government is fully aware of the inconvenience this may cause. However, the protection of our children remains our highest moral responsibility. Every student in Bauchi State deserves to learn in an environment that is safe, stable, and free of fear,” he said.

Parents, guardians, and school proprietors were urged not to panic but to remain cooperative as the government works with security agencies to address the threats and pave the way for safe resumption of academic activities.

The state government further appealed to residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to authorities, stressing that public intelligence is crucial to safeguarding communities.

The closure comes amid intensifying attacks and mass abductions in several northern states, prompting heightened security measures across the region. The Federal Ministry of Education has clarified that the shutdown applies only to Bauchi State and is not a nationwide directive.
