Victor Boniface to Miss German Cup Game After Fine, Ban By DFB

Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface as been hammered for sportingly behaviour by German Football Federation.

Trouble started for Boniface when he showed an offensive gesture to VFB Stuttgart players after the DFL Super Cup match earlier this month.

The Nigerian international who is a must play for Leverkusen was handed a one match ban and €25,000 (about N42.5million)

Boniface will therefore miss upcoming German Cup match against FC Carl Zeiss Jena as confirmed by the DFB on August 28.

Boniface, who joined Leverkusen from Union SG last year, has so far scored 14 goals for the side in 23 appearances. His contract runs till 2028.

Boniface is known for his distinctive style of play. His playing characteristics include strengths in dribbling, finishing, and headed attempts, while his weaknesses lie in offside awareness, holding onto the ball, and defensive contribution.

One of his major achievement last season was helping Leverkusen win their first-ever Bundesliga title after beating Werder Bremen on Sunday.15 Apr 2024

The 23 year old missed the Europa league title last season by the whiskers after compatriot Ademola Lookman fired Italian side Atalanta to victory, courtesy of his hat-trick.

Meanwhile the 2024/2025 Bundesliga season is set to kick off on Friday, August 23. Bundesliga champions Leverkusen will begin their title defence against Borussia M’gladbach away.

The German league is the last of the major leagues to kickoff for the new season as the others leagues namely the English premier league, the La Liga, the French Ligue 1 and the Italian Serie A have since hit the ground running.
