It was another heart aching disappointment on Thursday, 8th August, as Nigeria failed to survive the heat in both women and men 4x100m relays.

The women team comprising Favour Ofili, Rosemary Chukwuma, Tima Godbless and Justina Tiana Eyakpobeyan finished 6th in a time of 42.70.

The quartet of Justina Eyakpobeyan, Favour Ofili, Rosemary Chukwuma and Tima Godbless registered a Season Best of 42.70 in Heat 2 of women’s 4x100m relay but was not enough to earn Nigeria a spot in the finals

Interestingly, five teams advanced from the heat with Nigeria missing by whiskers by coming sixth.

A disappointed Ofili who did a good job starting off the race  said, “We gave it our all and are proud of setting our season’s best, but it’s heartbreaking to miss the final by such a slim margin.”

Relay teams that grabbed qualification to the finals from two heats include Britain France and Jamaica from Heat 1, and United States, Germany and Switzerland from Heat 2.

In the men’s category, Nigeria also did not fair better as the quartet of Alaba Akintola, F.O.T Ashe, Usheoritse Itsekiri and Kanyisla Ajayi finished seventh in a time of 38.20.United States relay team won the Heat with a time of 37.47 followed by South Africa at 37.94 and Great Britain at 38.04s.

Like the women, it was season best for the Nigerian men quartet but was not enough to guarantee advance to the next stage.
