Nigerian music super star and Song writer, Innocent Idibia, better known as 2Baba, has charged young artists in the industry to be diligent in their work and resist the temptation to run faster than their shadow.

Young artists according to him, should build a strong fan base, and not be overly ambitious.

He cited Burna Boy’s journey as an example, highlighting his gradual growth from small venues to selling out iconic venues like Madison Square Garden.

2Baba noted that success requires a long-term process, and he remains committed to creating good music, underscoring his enduring impact on the industry.

“Burna Boy sells out Madison Square Garden and they [other artistes] think they are on the same level. And that’s unrealistic.

“He knows what he passed through before getting to the level he is, and you have to go through that process in full. Burna boy didn’t just wake up and sell out Madison Square Garden; it’s a process that took a long time.

“He started by touring small venues and he built a huge followership from there. And you see the results now. It’s the same process. We are part of the sacrificers; the instrumental process [laughs], that’s true.

“But that doesn’t take anything away from the fact that I am still very much relevant. I’m still here making good music,” he stated in a recent interview with AFRIMMA.

He acknowledged the sacrifices he and his peers made to propel Afrobeats to its current global recognition. He hinted that correct jams will still come from him “You go still hear correct, correct jams now.”

2Baba whose genre is a mix of Afrobeat, Hip hop, Reggae, gospel and Afropop has garnered several awards over the years.

He was inducted into “The Headies Hall of Fame” in 2015 and the ‘Music Legends Hall of Fame’ in Ghana in 2022.

In May 2016, 2Baba was conferred an honorary Master of Arts in Music at Igbinedion University, Nigeria, and in March 2019, he was named a Fellow of the School of Music at Obafemi Awolowo University.

Fans of the ‘You are my African Queen’ fame, agree that he is still relevant and hailed his tendency to do enough homework before dishing out a new song, even as some however say they can hardly wait to hear a new song from the legend.
