Earlier today, March 14, 2022, the mainstream and social media were awash with a report, which swore that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had officially notified President Mohammadu Buhari of his interest to succeed him in Aso Rock, come 2023.

But Osinbajo’s media aide, Laolu Akande has come forward to debunk the report, waving it off as mere rumour and false.

Akande said:  Some online media had reported that the vice president had informed the President of his Presidential ambition.”

He went further: “It claimed that credible sources close to the VP confirmed that Osinbajo told the president of his desire to take over from him at the expiration of his tenure in 2023 to consolidate the achievements they recorded since they took over from the opposition PDP in 2015.”

“As it stands, It is not clear whether or not the Vice President will throw his hat into the ring,” Akande denied.

This will be the second time, this year, Akande denied that his principal ever dreamt of vying for the seat of the number one citizen in the coming 2023 presidential elections.

According to a tweet thread, the VP’s aide wrote on February 7, 2022 at 6:26 pm: “I’ve seen ‘news’  that VP’ll announce presidential bid after APC’s convention. Anyone reading the story ‘ll know it’s all false & speculative snippets. “Any information on activities & actions of the VP will come directly from his office & not sponsored speculations in the press.”

“The VP continues focusing all his attention on the work of this administration and on supporting Mr. President in every possible way. Please continue to ignore the speculations,” his tweet had concluded.
