Town Where You Must Remove Your Appendix Before Moving In

In Antarctica, there is a settlement called, Villa Las Estrellas on King George Island, which requires the unusual before any individual or family can come in there. The weird news is that anyone who wants to live around the town must undergo an operation and remove their appendix, first off.

Reports say, residents of the town are only ones who had obeyed the long-standing tradition of no appendicitis for everyone.

Interestingly, the reason, new residents are required to remove their appendix actually makes sense.

According to a report, “the nearest hospital is over 600 miles away from the Chilean settlement, meaning healthcare is limited.”

The report also confirmed that while doctors do stay at the research base, it’s not guaranteed that there will be a surgeon capable of treating appendicitis, which requires quick surgery.

So any one moving there must undergo a pre-emptive appendectomy to avoid any life or death emergencies.

Highly dominated by scientists, the town is one of the few settlements in Antarctica where people live and enjoy for years.

Talking about the people – the population makeup is another interesting spot about the town.  It’s mostly dominated by researchers and personnel from Chile’s air force or navy, which make up the 100 people at the base. Those on longer-term contracts often bring their entire families but must have removed their appendix before relocating.

Funnily, people are discouraged from getting pregnant while staying there, as a result.

Also, dogs are banned just so they don’t spread infectious diseases to wildlife.

On whether there are available social amenities, it was confirmed the remote settlement does have a huddle of homes, school, library, post office, radio station, bank and supermarket.
