Unknown gunmen have attacked police vehicle at Omatha Junction, Ichi in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to an eyewitness account, the incident occurred at 8.30 am today.

The unknown gunmen were said to have used an explosive to blast the vehicle, killing two police officers and injuring one.

Not less than three passersby were hit and now hospitalised, according to sources.

In a chat with Prime Business Africa, Anambra Police Public Relations Officer, Toochukwu Ikenga,  said police operatives have launched a manhunt on  the attackers.

According to him, the manhunt team on ground is led by the Nnewi Area Commander and made up of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

Meanwhile, police have moved bodies of the slain officers to the morgue.
