Nigerian Troops Kill Scores Of Boko Haram Terrorists, Lose 5 Soldiers In Borno - DHQ 

The Defence Headquarters of the Nigerian Army has confirmed that five soldiers died in an attack by Boko Haram/Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Gubio LGA of Borno State.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Defence Headquarters, Major General Edward Buba, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, said it occurred over the weekend,

According to Buba, the soldiers were assigned to the stabilisation operations pro-force and defence site in Gubio LGA of the state.

He said 10 more soldiers were injured and four went missing, adding that the troops killed a number of terrorists and retrieved weapons.

The statement said some equipment including one gun truck, three TCVs, and an excavator were burnt by the enemy forces.

“The coordinated attack saw five killed in action soldiers, 10 wounded, and four missing in action, while troops eliminated several terrorists as well as recovered weapons,” he stated.

“Subsequently, a reinforcement team with an air component was dispatched to exploit the general area and the terrorists’ withdrawal route,” the statement added.

The DHQ asserted that the military high command remains committed to stamping out terrorism and other forms of insecurity ravaging the country.

“However, it is pertinent to note that such an attack shall not deter the troops and armed forces of Nigeria from seeing the end of terrorism, insurgency, and other insecurity challenges facing the country.”
