It was another nostalgic moment for some survivors of the Maui Hawaii Wild fire that occured in August 2023 as they recounted how the disaster hit them to the Prime Business Africa Publisher, Dr Marcel Mbamalu, who together with 10 other 2023 Jefferson Fellows visited the scene.

“on Sunday October 15, 2023, I had an emotional encounter with Elizabeth Fellows in Maui Hawaii as she makes the traditional Lei of “Aloha” to honour thousands of victims who lost their homes and lives to the wildfire in August 2023,” says Dr Mbamalu, describing his encounter with one of the wildfire victims.

This Fiji-born diving instructor, Steven Pickering, lost $500 thousand dollars to the Maui fire but saved some homes by stopping the fire from reaching the neighbourhoods. Although the U.S media had celebrated him as  a “Hero”, he tells Prime Business Africa‘s Dr Marcel Mbamalu that he does not really feel like one.
