The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) on Tuesday condemned the outcome of the meeting convened at Aso Villa by President Bola Tinubu on the rivalry between former Rivers governor, Nyesom Wike and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Over the past few weeks, Fubara and his estranged godfather, Wike have been at loggerheads over the control of the political structure of the state. On Monday night, both gladiators agreed to end the rivalry at a meeting with Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja.

In the eight-point resolution signed by Fubara, Wike, and other Rivers stakeholders, it was agreed that all impeachment proceedings against the governor should be dropped “immediately” while Martin Amaewhule and co who defected from the PDP to the APC who defected should retain their seats as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja, the PANDEF Leader, Edwin Clark said the terms of the resolutions are “baffling, appalling and unacceptable” to the people, stressing that the eight-point resolution effectively handed over the political leadership of Rivers State to Wike.

While describing the resolutions as “undemocratic and dictatorial” and the fact that it was brokered at Nigeria’s seat of power as sacrilegious, Clark said the pact was Tinubu’s way of showing gratitude to Wike for helping the All Progressives Congress (APC) win the presidential election in Rivers State.

Prime Business Africa reports that PANDEF was particularly peeved over the resolution that the Rivers 2024 budget should be presented again to the Rivers house of assembly, stressing that it is “another unthinkable directive”.

“The eight resolutions reached, are the most unconstitutional, absurd and obnoxious resolutions at settling feuding parties that I have ever witnessed in my life.

“As a matter of fact, some media captured it very well when they described it as directives.

“And for the fact that such thing was done at the villa, the seat of the Federal Government of Nigeria, is sacrilegious, because any place housing or is a custodian of symbol of authority, ought to be sacred.

“It is obvious that Governor Siminialayi Fubara was ambushed and intimidated into submission.

“President Tinubu should know that with all the powers he possesses, he cannot override the constitution.

“From all that transpired at the meeting, the laws of the land have not been obeyed.

“We will resist such draconic, arbitrary and unconstitutional action by Mr. President and his customer, Nyesom Wike.

“We will go to court to challenge this so-called one-sided and oppressive action of Mr. President,” Clark said on behalf of his group.
