How to Prepare Your Child For Resumption

Whether your child/children have resumed or not, you can still prepare them for resumption.

Even if your child is up to the tertiary education stage, you still play a vital part in helping to get them ready for resumption.

Here are some practical tips to keep in mind:

  • Get school supplies, such as books for the term, replace worn-out uniforms, sandals and bags, and other writing materials.
  • Create routines for bedtime, waking up, getting ready for school, study sessions, homework, and study sessions. Consistently help your child stick to this routine.
  • If your child has to travel to school, such as a boarder or university student, ensure that their health is intact first before releasing them to go on their trip.
  • Stay in close communication with your child’s school to be updated on any change in resumption date, and even your child’s teacher. This should extend even beyond resumption to ensure that your child is free from any form of student-teacher abuse.
  • Teach your child to speak up and report any form of abuse or indiscipline on the part of the school to you.

How You Can Adjust To A New Academic Session

Resuming back to school after a holiday, especially one that was filled with so many fun activities, can be a struggle.

This is because your body has adapted to rest mode already so you will need to re-awaken it again to work mode, which is not always easy, at least for some.

Here’s how you can adjust easily to a new academic session and have a productive one:

  • Don’t stop reading. Breaks and books don’t go well together. But as much as possible, try to read during your break. You can read anything from your school books to fictional novels. The more you read during your break, the easier it is to return to your books when you resume.
  • Set academic goals and write them down. Aim to be better this session than the previous one.
  • Write down the scheme of work or course outline for each subject, and read ahead.
  • Be friendly with your teachers or lecturers and ask them for help where needed.

With that, you’re ready to resume and have a great year this 2025/2026 academic session.
