Deputy National Organizing Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Nze Chidi Duru, has expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the deceased Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ghali Umar Na’ Abba.

Nze Duru, in a condolence message made available to journalists on Wednesday, lamented that Governor Akeredolu left when his intellectual and leadership prowess were most needed.

The Anambra-born entrepreneur stated that Akeredolu was a thoroughbred lawyer and a seasoned administrator who distinguished himself in his professional and political career, adding that he would be remembered for his contributions to the sustenance of democracy and adherence to the rule of law in Nigeria.

“The nation has lost a great patriot and an astute legal icon who in about seven years at the helm of affairs as Governor of Ondo State demonstrated an unwavering capacity to transform the fortunes of the state for good in all facets.

“His legacies of superlative performance as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State, Chairman of the Legal Aid Council, Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, and as Governor of Ondo State will live on forever,” Duru stated.

He prayed that God in His infinite mercies would grant the immediate family, the good people of Ondo State, and the progressive family the fortitude to bear the loss.

In his condolence message to the Na’Abba’s family, the former member of the House of Representatives noted that the demise of Ghali Na’Abba was a national loss based on his impressive performance as Speaker of the 4th House of Representatives (1999-2003) as well as his contributions to the growth of democratic practice in Nigeria.

The APC stalwart recalled his days at the National Assembly with the late Na’Abba when he served under his leadership as the Chairman of the House Committee on Privatization, and Housing and Urban Development, revealing that he gave all the Committees freedom to operate without interference which culminated in the success recorded by the 4th House of Representatives.

“He was a great man with an in-depth knowledge of legislative procedures and political experience. He worked effortlessly for the entrenchment of democratic ethos and independence of the legislative arm of government in the country when he held sway as the Speaker of the 4th National Assembly. His wealth of experience and intellectual capacity will be sorely missed,” he disclosed.
