Panic gripped the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State on Tuesday as an aircraft operated by ValueJet airline slipped on taxi turn after landing and cleared off the airport’s taxiway.

After veering off, the plane was said to have blocked a significant part of the runway, stopping other aircraft from taking off or landing at the facility. The airspace was subsequently shut down, according to reports.

Meanwhile, ValueJet MD, Dapo Majekodunmi has explained that Captain Stanley Balami reported the slip was a result of algae on the taxiway, preventing the aircraft from maintaining the centerline.

Assuring the public of ValueJet’s commitment to safety, the Managing Director maintained that the airline’s operations remain normal without any disruptions.
