Buhari Celebrates Yakubu Gowon In Birthday Greetings

Former President, Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated erstwhile military Head of State and leader of Nigeria Prays, General Yakubu Gowon on the occasion of his 89th birthday.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his media aide, Garba Shehu, the immediate past president said Gowon’s national development plans, including the Hydroelectric Power Plant at Kainji in Niger State, are some of the major achievements of his visionary leadership.”

He further stated that history will be kind to the elder statesman, who served as Head of State between 1966 and 1975, for setting Nigeria on the path of reconciliation, rehabilitation  and reconstruction after the civil war.

“I convey my warm greetings to respected former Head of State, General Gowon on his birthday and pray for his long and healthy life.

“He served Nigeria with diligence and determination.

“I remain eternally grateful for his insightful wisdom and support throughout my years in office,” the statement read in parts.

Prime Business Africa reports that only last week, the retired Army general dispelled widespread rumours that he has passed away.

Social media had gone on overdrive with speculations that the octogenarian was dead. Gowon, who was in London at the time, promptly dispatched a text message to reporters which read, “I am still around and well. I am not in a hurry (to meet my Maker)”.
