Tinubu, Obi Congratulate Tems For Winning Grammy Award

Nigeria’s president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and 2023 Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have congratulated Nigeria Music artist, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, for winning the Best African Music Performance at the 67th Grammy Awards.

Tems, who was declared winner of the Best African Music Performance category, beat WizKid, Davido, Burna Boy, Yemi Alade and others nominated for the award on Sunday night at Los Angeles.

This is her second time of winning the Grammy Award after clinching it in 2023.

Tinubu Obi Congratulate Tems for winning Grammy Award

Nigerians, including influential figures, have taken turns to congratulate Tems for winning the award and her achievements in the music industry.

Tinubu in a state posted on his X handle on Monday, said he is proud of Tems and other Nigerian Artists who were nominated for the Grammy Award in the African category.

He added that their achievements are a continuous inspiration to Nigerians.

“Congratulations to @temsbaby on winning the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance, ‘Love me jeje’. I am proud of her accomplishments and those of Nigerian origin who were nominated for the Grammy awards. Their achievements continue to inspire all Nigerians. Congratulations!” the president stated in the tweet.

Meanwhile, Obi expressed delight in the success of Nigerian youths, especially those in the entertainment industry.

The former Anambra State governor noted that Nigeria remains a home for talents who put the country in global maps.

He reaffirmed his commitment to building a nation that fosters growth among youths.

“I am ever elated by the huge success Nigerian youths are making in various fields, especially in the entertainment sector.

“I like therefore to extend my hearty congratulations to our Nigerian Afrobeats star, Tems @temsbaby , who just secured her second Grammy Award with her win in the Best African Music Performance category,” Obi stated via his X handle.

“I also rejoice with Nigeria’s entertainment industry and other Nigerian artists who were nominated for different awards in their respective categories.

“Undoubtedly, Nigeria remains home to the endless flow of talents who through their creative arts, continue to put the nation on the global map.I firmly remain committed to building a nation that fosters growth among the youths and helps them discover and harness their individual talents for national productivity”.

Tems won the award from a Song she released in April 2016, titled ‘Love me jeje’. With Sunday’s prize, Tems has become the first Nigerian to win two Grammys to after winning the Best Melodic Rap Performance in 2023 for featuring on Future’s hit Wait For U.

Aside from the Best African Music Performance, Tems was also nominated in two other categories – Best Global Music Album for Born in the Wild and Best R&B Song for Burning. Across her career she has now received eight nominations in all.
