Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, made his first public appearance on Sunday, five days after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state and suspended him from office.

Fubara attended a special prayer, worship, and thanksgiving service at the Salvation Ministries Headquarters in Port Harcourt, where he expressed gratitude to God for His love, mercy, and unwavering support amid the ongoing political challenges in the state.

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has also spoken out against the emergency rule, describing it as a “constitutional aberration” that undermines the principles of federalism and democracy.

Soyinka argued that the move is a clear indication of the federal government’s disregard for the autonomy of states and the rule of law.

He also expressed concerns about the potential consequences of the emergency rule on the people of Rivers State, particularly in terms of their economic and social well-being.

Soyinka’s comments echo his longstanding view that Nigeria’s governance system is flawed, with too much power concentrated in the hands of the president.

He has called for a national conference to draft a truly representative constitution and has questioned the wisdom of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to impose emergency rule on Rivers State.
