Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, has passed on at the age of 61.
Rufai reportedly died on Thursday after battling with prolonged illness.

He earned 65 international caps for the Super Eagles.
Rufai played in Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain during his 20-year playing career.

In addition, he played for Nigeria in two World Cups and numerous Africa Cup of Nations competitions.
In a statement via its X handle, Super Eagles expressed sorrow over Rufai’s death and described him as a “legendary goalkeeper.
“We mourn the passing of legendary Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, a giant of Nigerian football and a 1994 AFCON champion. Your legacy lives on between the sticks and beyond.”
Rufai’s passing comes on a day the football community is mourning Liverpool forward Diogo Jota. Earlier in the day, Jota and his brother died in a car accident in Spain.
