Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has emphasised the crucial role of sub-nationals in driving investments and trade in Africa at the Africa Business Forum 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

He stressed that while national-level discussions and plans are essential, implementation must be devolved to sub-nationals to achieve tangible results.

Makinde highlighted Oyo State’s success in leveraging agribusiness to expand its economy, create import substitution, and generate foreign exchange. He showcased the Fashola Agribusiness Industrial Hub project as a game-changer, attracting interest from other sub-nationals in Nigeria and African countries.

The governor’s call to action is significant, as it underscores the need for sub-nationals to take an active role in implementing policies that drive economic growth and integration. By sharing Oyo State’s success stories, Makinde aims to inspire other sub-nationals to explore similar opportunities and collaborate towards a more prosperous Africa.

Makinde’s emphasis on sub-national involvement aligns with the forum’s objectives, which include promoting innovative financing solutions, creating an enabling environment for private sector investments, and boosting intra-African trade.
