Nigeria’s Flying Eagles on Thursday evening began their quest for their 8th U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt with a 1-0 win over Tunisia at the Cairo International stadium, reports Prime Business Africa.

The only goal of the match came in the 37th minute through Auwal Ibrahim, who pounced on a well-timed assist from Odinaka Okoro to slot the ball into the bottom corner.

The Tunisians, who were late replacement for Côte d’Ivoire after the latter pulled out as hosts of the tournament, were on the front foot and pressed for an equaliser, but the Nigerian side remained defensively resolute.

The Flying Eagles will face another north African side, Morocco in their next fixture on Sunday.

Four semifinalists at the U-20 AFCON will represent Africa at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
