COOU Acting VC Appoints Aronu To Head Data, Statistics Unit

Acting Vice-Chancellor, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, has appointed Dr. Charles Okechukwu Aronu to head a newly established Data and Statistics Unit in the university.

The creation of the Data and Statistics Unit is to ensure an effective data management system in line with ongoing efforts of Prof. Omenugha’s administration to transform the administrative landscape of the institution.

A statement from the university management said it aligns with the university’s core policy framework encapsulated in the 3Vs agenda: Values, Viability, and Visibility.

“By addressing the long-standing data challenges that have previously hampered administrative processes, the university aims to lay a robust foundation for informed decision-making and strategic planning,” a statement from the institution emphasised.

Dr. Aronu, a statistician, researcher, and senior lecturer at the Department of Statistics in the university, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role. His academic pursuits have encompassed a diverse range of fields, including econometrics, probability theory, spatial analysis, and cutting-edge machine learning techniques.

His contributions to statistical research and data-driven policy analysis have positioned him as a leading figure in his field.

He has multiple publications in esteemed journals, addressing complex issues such as economic modeling, robust regression, financial statistics, and applied econometrics.

He has also pioneered innovative statistical methodologies, including permutation-based econometric techniques and bootstrap-enhanced estimations, underscoring his commitment to pushing the boundaries of quantitative research and data analysis.

With expertise in programming languages such as R, Python, Stata, and MATLAB, he not only possesses theoretical acuity but also excels in the computational realm, effectively tackling intricate statistical challenges.

Dr. Aronu’s visionary approach to statistical research and his dedication to leveraging data for effective policy formulation highlight his potential to drive both institutional advancement and broader societal development.

In an interview with COOUNewS, Aronu expressed his gratitude to the Acting Vice-Chancellor for assigning him such a critical task in the institution at this crucial moment.
