Air Peace has explained why its plane that was supposed to pick up the chairman and CEO, Allen Onyema, and his staff on Saturday evening was unable to land at Ekiti airport.
Last Saturday, Onyema travelled to Ekiti to receive an honorary doctorate from the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti. However, an aircraft that was supposed to pick him up was unable to land at the Ekiti State Agro Allied International Cargo Airport, causing a delay on his flight out of the state.

According to a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications, Air Peace Limited, Dr Ejike Ndiulo, the airline said it is aware of some reports that during a recent visit to Ekiti, the company’s chairman and CEO was left stranded at the Ekiti State Agro Allied International Cargo Airport for more than twenty-four hours since there were no navigational aids available.
The airline, however, described the report as false, inaccurate and misleading, adding that it was a “deliberate misrepresentation of facts designed to malign Air Peace and its leadership.”

The statement countered a claim in the media report that the aircraft pilot took a risky manoeuvre to exit Ekiti airport to Lagos, saying it was “an outright fabrication that irresponsibly suggests a breach of aviation safety protocol, which Air Peace would never engage in.”
Ndiulo clarified that bad weather (heavy rain) prevented the plane that was supposed to pick up Onyema and his team from landing in Ekiti on Saturday night and that the flight was redirected back to Lagos as a normal safety measure.

“This is a routine occurrence in global aviation and not a reflection of any inadequacy on the part of the airport.
“At no point did any Air Peace flight engage in unsafe operations, contrary to the false narrative pushed by Sahara Reporters. Air Peace upholds the highest international aviation safety standards, with safety as our top priority,” Ndiulo explained.
According to him, safety is not only a top priority at Air Peace, but also a necessary prerequisite for all of their operations.
