Atiku Visits APC Binani

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has sparked speculation about his political intentions ahead of the 2027 general elections, following his visit to APC’s Binani.

On Monday, Atiku paid a surprise visit to Aishatu Dahiru, popularly known as Binani, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Adamawa State during the 2023 general election.

The meeting, which took place at Binani’s private residence in Abuja, was the first private engagement between the two political figures since the 2023 elections.

The move has led to speculations about a potential political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku’s visit has raised eyebrows, especially considering the past campaign materials that linked his presidential bid with Binani’s governorship race in 2023. Although he officially backed his party’s candidate and eventual winner, Ahmadu Fintiri, several flyers and banners at the time prominently featured Binani as the preferred choice for governor alongside Atiku for president.

Fintiri had polled 430,861 votes to defeat Binani, who secured 398,788 votes, in the election.

Political observers believe that Atiku, who is expected to contest for the presidency again, may be exploring new political partnerships beyond the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to strengthen his chances in the next election cycle.

On the other hand, Binani, who has a wide influence in Adamawa, is hopeful about contesting for governor in 2027.
