August 6, 2022

Rising from two major meetings with the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), has nominated Ebonyi  and Imo state chief executives, Dave Umahi and Hope Uzodinma, to serve as directors for Tinubu’s  2023 Presidential campaign in Southeast region and other southern regions.

Prime Business Africa reports that the decision was reached  at two-day meeting with Tinubu in Lagos between Monday and Tuesday this week.

While Umahi will serve at the national level as Director for the entire Southern Nigeria, his counterpart in Imo State, Uzodinma will oversee the entire Southeast alone.

The Lagos emergency meetings, PBA gathered, agreed that the decision of the governors would still  be ratified by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party and by extension the National Executive Committee.

Prime Business Africa reports that, while Governor of Plateau State Simon Lalong has been approved as the Director-General of the Tinubu/APC Presidential campaign, Jigawa State Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar will chair the APC 2023 Presidential campaign for the entire Northern region.

The governors also created Zonal Directorates for the six geopolitical zones, to be manned by appointed colleagues.

While Governor Uzodinma will oversee the Tinubu Presidential Campaign in the Southeast –  comprising Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia and Enugu states – Professor Ben Ayade of Cross River State will hold down the fort in South South states of Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Edo.

In the same vein, Ondo State Governor, Oluwa Rotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN, will head the campaign in Southwest states consisting of Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ogun.

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (who was originally touted as potential running mate until former Borno State governor Senator Kashim Shettima emerged) will now act as director for the Northwest, comprising Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, SokotoKatsina, Kebbi and Zamfara states,

Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello will be the director for the North Central states of Plateau, Benue, Niger, Kogi, Kwara and the Federal Capital Territory.

His counterpart in Gombe State, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, has also been nominated by the governors to head the campaign in the Northeast.

Impeccable sources within the ruling APC, who spoke to Prime Business Africa in Kano late Friday night and early Saturday morning, also confirmed -as one of them put it – that, ‘‘Other evolving coordinating teams are about to be set up.

“I am also telling you that no input has been made by the party so far. The important thing here is that the candidate, Tinubu himself has met with the Chairman of the party and the governors, and I can tell you that it’s now subject to the approval of the APC as a body through the NWC and NEC, a source Northeast who was privy to the meeting disclosed early Saturday morning.
