APC Set To Officially Zone Chairmanship To North, Presidency To South

THE Caretaker Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress  (APC)  after its Tuesday (today’s) crucial meeting will officially announce the zoning of its  party positions, which would entail returning all positions currently  held by northerners to the South and vice versa.

A caveat to the swapping of roles in party positions, according to sources,  is that the base point would be the tenure of the ousted substantive National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole, who is from the South.  Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, the current caretaker committee chairman  from the North does not have a substantive position. This  automatically puts the chairmanship  position at the February 26 convention in the hands of the North, as the South will be poised to produce the APC  candidate for the 2023 Presidential election.

The party will also make public the February 26 National Convention date, as reported on Monday by Prime Business Africa based  on what was agreed  at the Sunday meeting of APC governors in Abuja

APC Governors’ Meeting Okays February 26 For National Convention

Prime Business Africa had  exclusively reported  the ruling party’s plan to  zone the presidency to the South in the run up to the 2023 general elections. It also reported for the first time that the Convention would hold in February 2022.

The governors following their crucial meeting in Abuja on Sunday  backed the proposal for the National Convention to hold on February 26.

Authoritative sources said the original February 5 date was no longer feasible as the party lost some valuable  time following efforts to resolve the crises rocking it in some states, hence the slight shift to February 26.

How Governors Uzodinma, Abiodun, Bello Failed To Scuttle APC Convention, Make Buni Substantive Chairman

All the APC governors, except three  (Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, Dapo Biodun of Ogun State and Yahaya Bello of Kogi) approved the February 26 date.  The three governors who differed  surprisingly requested the transmutation of the Caretaker Committee Chairman to substantive status.

APC, Bagudu Confirm Prime Business Africa’s Report On National Convention, Zoning Of Presidency

A small committee led by the  caretaker committee chairman, Buni,  and the Progressives Governors Forum  Chair, Atiku Bagudu, was set up to  fine-tune the zoning arrangement on Monday January 17, 2022 after which the Caretaker Committee  would meet on Tuesday (Today) to officially own in the eyes of the public every decision reached at the Sunday and Monday meetings.
