Uduegbunam ChukwujamaIt is now confirmed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will hold its National Convention on February 5, 2022 as first reported by Prime Business Africa on November.
Prime Buisness Africa gathered that major sub committees for the February 5 convention have either been activated or being prepared for a seamless convention.
Impeccable inside sources said the current APC caretaker committee led by Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has been mandated to conduct the national convention on February 5.
Authoritative sources within the Presidency and the party informed Prime Business Africa on Thursday that a national caucus meeting of the party would be summoned in early January and the Caretaker Committee of party mandated to issue the statutory 21-day notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) informing the commission of the February 5 Convention.
It was learnt that President Muhammadu Buhari, who, but for the yuletide, would have had the convention hold in December this year, has put his feet down and warned he would not tolerate any further delay.

Buni was appointed chair of the committee on June 25, 2020 with the mandate to, among other things, do data capture for all APC members as well as conduct congresses for the party at ward, local government, state, zonal and national levels.
Presidential aide Bashir Ahmad had on June 25, 2020 tweeted that, following Buni’s appointment in the thick of the crises confronting the party at the time, he would be the chairman of the All Progressives Congress’ caretaker committee and extraordinary national convention.” His appointment came as the APC dissolved its national working committee during its national executive council meeting of Thursday, June 25, 2020, which was convened by Victor Gaidam recognised by President Buhari as acting chairman of the party. President of the Senate Ahmed Lawan and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila were at the meeting, alongside 15 APC governors (Narsarawa, Niger, Jigawa, Yobe, Plateau, Kogi, Imo, Gombe, Osun, Lagos, Kwara, Ekiti, Kano and Kebbi states).

”Buni’s is already a convention committee, and APC does not need to reinvent the wheel,” another party leader, who would not want his name mentioned, told Prime Business Africa on Thursday.
This newspaper’s original report of the APC convention date, under the headline, ”APC Set To Officially Zone Presidency To South,” in mid November had indicated that the Progressive Governors had picked February for APC’s national convention and would seek Buhari’s approval in Abuja the following week. it’s subsequent stories stated that the convention would hold within the first three Saturdays in February next year and later exclusively confirmed the February 5 date.

But interests within the party have been pushing for different dates with some suggestions that the party would have to first appoint new committee to pilot the affairs of the convention. But President Buhari was said to have given ”his word for the umpteenth time that the convention should hold on February 5 without further postponement,” a high-profile source privy to all the discussions told Prime Business Africa on Thursday.
”Mai Mala Buni Committee has been there for more than 18 months (June 2020) and (it) is empowered to anchor the convention on February 5, 2022,” the source told Prime Business Africa.
